Department Coordinator for Missions Associate Professor of Missions
B.A., Georgetown College; M.Div., The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; M.A., Azusa Pacific University; D.Th., University of South Africa
Dr. Bruce Carlton joined the Boyce College faculty in January 2007. Dr. Carlton comes to Boyce College with over 20 years of cross-cultural missions experience with the International Missions Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention. He has served as a church planter in Hong Kong, Strategy Coordinator for the Khmer people of Cambodia, Coordinator of the Rapid Advance effort for unreached peoples in South Asia, and, most recently as the Strategy Associate for Strategic Advance in the South Asia region.
During his years in Asia, Dr. Carlton has been involved in church planting, primarily in areas with little or no Christian witness. The primary emphasis of his ministry has been equipping missionaries and church planters to model their lives and ministries on 2 Timothy 2:2 with the intent that this would lead to multiplication of disciples and churches throughout a people group in order for everyone within that people group to have opportunity to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ. Dr. Carlton is widely respected as an effective trainer and as an authority on church-planting movements.
Dr. Carlton has authored several books: Amazing Grace: Lessons on Church-Planting Movements from Cambodia (2000; 2nd ed. 2004); Acts 29: Practical Training in Facilitating Church-Planting Movements Among the Neglected Harvest Fields (2003); Acts 29 Trainer's Guide (2003); and Project Thessalonica: Acts 29 Training for Churches (2004). He is presently preparing a new book for publication in 2007.
Dr. Carlton and his wife Gloria, married in 1978, have two grown daughters, Elizabeth and Mary. Elizabeth is married to Ryan Falls.
