- Chuck Lawless – What Happens When The Spirit Works through Us
- by Denny Burk – February 8, 2010
Dr. Chuck Lawless, Dean of the Billy Graham School of Missions and Evangelism, exhorts the students of Boyce College to do ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Our founder James P. Boyce once said, “We hold the education of the ministry a matter of the first importance to the churches of Christ.”
Boyce’s declaration represents not merely the parochial interests of a 19th century Baptist, but rather the enduring concern of every Christian seriously committed to our Lord’s command to make disciples of all nations… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
In agreement with Boyce, we regard theological education as a matter of “first importance” because it is a necessary implication of the Great Commission given to us by Christ. So in obedience to our Lord’s command, Boyce College exists to train workers for the harvest who have a passion for the supremacy of God as it is revealed in the gospel of Jesus Christ. As one of my predecessors put it, we aim to produce ministers of the gospel who are zealous for the Christian word, steeped in the Christian worldview, and committed to the Christian witness.
We are grateful to be a part of the world-wide work of the Southern Baptist Convention. And we are looking for God-called men and women who are ready and willing to be trained at the undergraduate level to spread a passion for the supremacy of Christ in all things for the joy of all peoples. If God is calling you to this great work, then I encourage you to come and be a part of what God is doing at Boyce College.
For the glory of Christ,
Denny Burk
Dean of Boyce College
