- Kevin DeYoung – Defining Discipleship Down
- by Denny Burk – April 12, 2010
Kevin DeYoung preached to the students of Boyce College last week, and it was outstanding. His text was Mark 3:7-19, and his topic was “Defining Discipleship Down.” The title is a riff on Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s 1993 article “Defining Deviancy Down.” This is a must-listen. Barry Joslin
Associate Professor of Christian Theology
B.A. Louisiana Tech University, Th.M. Dallas Theological Seminary, Ph.D. The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
Dr. Joslin brings a great love for the Greek language and Biblical Theology to Boyce College. He earned his Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary in May 2001 where he studied under Drs. Dan Wallace and Darrell Bock. He received his Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in December 2005 where he was supervised and mentored by Dr. Tom Schreiner. His dissertation was on the theology of the law in the epistle to the Hebrews. In addition to his academic ministries, Dr. Joslin loves his local church and serves as the worship pastor at Ninth and O Baptist Church (www.naobc.org). As a worship pastor it is his goal to magnify Christ by pastoring the body through congregational worship. He and his wife Jessica were married in 2000. They have three children, and are expecting a fourth in the summer of 2010. He enjoys SEC football (LSU!), auto racing, reading, and being outdoors with his family.
Books
- Focus on the Bible Commentary on the Epistle to the Hebrews. Ross-shire, Scotland: Christian Focus Publishing (forthcoming).
- Hebrews, Christ, and the Law: the Theology of the Mosaic Law in Hebrews 7:1-10:18. Paternoster Biblical Monograph Series. Carlisle, England: Paternoster, (forthcoming, 2008). This monograph is the published version of Dr. Joslin’s dissertation.
- Mounce’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2006. Dr. Joslin contributed 35 articles to this dictionary of Old and New Testament words. It is based on the NIV translation, though it’s still serviceable with the King James Version. Zondervan is hoping that it will replace the old but popular Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words, which was based on the King James translation.
