4. How much do online courses cost?
The current tuition and fees can be found at Tuition and Fees.
5. Can I earn an entire degree online?
Boyce College offers an Associate of Arts degree in Biblical and Theological Studies that can be earned almost completely online. Of the 60 hours, 12 hours of general studies courses must be earned by taking courses at a local college (English Composition 1 & 2, Computer Science, General Math), but the rest of the curriculum is offered in an online format from our professors at Boyce College. Other degree plans may vary. The seminary and Boyce College offers short term courses in January and in the summer to help students obtain on campus hours. The seminary also offers courses through extension centers around the country. See the seminary and Boyce College catalog for more details.
6. How do the online courses work?
Students registered for online courses access the course syllabus, assignments, handouts, the list of required textbooks, contact information for professors and support, discussion forums and other vital course information via a secure website designed specifically for the course. In addition, in most of our online courses students receive the professors’ lectures on video CD/DVD. These are mailed to the student at the beginning of the semester. Students can view the lectures over and over again according to their schedule. The CDs/DVDs are then returned to the seminary at the end of the semester. Library resources, technical support, advisors, virtual chapel resources, and more are also available via the course website and/or the seminary website. Explore this website for some of these features.
7. What schedule do the online courses follow?
Our online courses follow the on campus semester calendar. They will begin during the first week of the semester and end during the final week. Normally the course work is divided into sections with deadlines. For example, a syllabus might instruct a student to read chapters 1-3, view lectures 5-7, participate in a discussion forum, turn in a certain paper and take a weekly quiz during a specific week or by a set deadline. Some courses will feature a limited amount of chat room experience for which a student has to be online at a certain time to participate in a synchronous, real time discussion. This is not the norm however and when it is a part of the syllabus the professor will notify the students well in advance and will work with those students for whom it is impossible.
8. How do I obtain textbooks?
Registered students will access the list of the required textbooks on their course website. Students must arrange for the delivery of any textbooks from a book dealer. Our campus LifeWay bookstore is always ready to assist you and can be reached at 1-502-897-4506.
9. What if I must drop an online course?
If you do not properly drop an online course for which you have registered, you will receive a failing grade at the end the semester. To drop an online course, complete the Drop Form and submit it to the Office of Academic Records. You must also return any course CDs/DVDs and Student User Agreements to the Office of Distributed Learning/Boyce College Online immediately: The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Office of Distributed Learning/Boyce College Online 2825 Lexington Road HCC 200 – Box 2378 Louisville, KY 40280
