Three Boyce Basketball Players Awarded Post-Season Honors
Junior Forward Ethan Ammon was named 2nd-Team All Region for the 2010-2011 season. Ethan led the Mid-East Region in rebounds with 11.0 per game and he was second in scoring averaging 19.4 points per game, while shooting 53% from the field.
Coach Emadi’s Comments: Ethan took everyone by surprise this year. I expected Ethan to play a major role on the team this year, but I did not imagine that he would be such a dominating force in the Mid-East region. Ethan’s hard work and toughness propelled him to become one of the best players in our region. As much I as love Ethan’s on-court performance, I am more encouraged to know that he is a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Ethan volunteers weekly at a local Upwards basketball ministry. He coaches a team of 5 year old boys and points them to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Senior Guard Blake Rogers was named Honorable Mention All Region for the 2010-2011 season. Blake averaged 11.5 points, 4 rebounds, and shot 37% from the 3-point line.
Coach Emadi’s Comments: Blake Rogers was our Senior captain and he did a great job fulfilling this role. Blake clearly distinguished himself as the leader of our team. On the court, Blake was by far out best 3-point shooter. After sitting out last season due to a back injury, I thought it might take Blake half a season to get back in the groove, but he was able to compete at a high level from the very start. We will miss Blake’s 3-point touch next season, but even more we will miss his Christian character, positive attitude, and work ethic. Blake serves with Ethan in the Upwards basketball ministry.
Freshman Guard Matt Powell was named Honorable Mention All Region for the 2010-2011 season. Matt averaged 16.3 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds for the season.
Coach Emadi’s Comments: Matt Powell was an unexpected and welcomed addition to our team. Matt had to bare the burden of playing the hardest position in the game of basketball, the point guard spot, and that as a Freshman. He handled this role with poise and maturity. Matt’s ball-handling ability and quickness was instrumental to our success this season. The Mid-East region does not hand out a “Freshman-of-the-year” award, but if they did, Matt Powell would be the winner. Matt is a person that I look forward to working with in the years ahead. He is solid Christian young man and a joy to Coach.
