D3 Conference

Boyce College will be hosting a youth camp this summer that is unlike anything you have seen before. It is called “D3: Leadership, Worldview, Missions.” Here’s a brief description:

“The four-day, three-night D3 Youth Conference is a summer experience full of learning and growing opportunities for students following Christ. Designed to accelerate high school students’ understanding of leadership, worldview and missions, D3 students will learn from the country’s strongest theologians, church executives and worship leaders while on the campus of Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky.”

Featured speakers include R. Albert Mohler and Russell Moore. Musical worship will be led by Josh Wilson. Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Flame will also be performing.

Registration is now open, so please let your pastor or youth leader know about this conference. This is one you won’t want your students to miss!

Attention all Boyce students:

The end of the year is approaching, and it is time to register for Spring classes! In order to make sure that you get the classes that you want for the Spring, we encourage you to register for your courses this week. We recommend that you register no later than this Friday, December 4, 2009. Here’s a description of the show:

“Time Magazine has recently reported on the state of the American women. Though many modern women are more powerful and make more money than any generation previously, they are far less happy. As the family unit dissolves and the gift of motherhood is set aside for cultural achievement, women are losing a sense of sure footing and purpose in life. As Dr. Mohler notes today, women will find genuine happiness through the gospel, faithfulness to His Word, and love for the family of Christ.”

I have been preaching through the Sermon on the Mount, and one thing we have discovered is that Jesus laid down some very high expectations for his disciples in that message. “Except your righteousness exceeds that of the Scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” “He who is angry with his brother may be in danger of hell fire.” “Do not judge others.” “Do not worry about anything.” “Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.” Those paraphrases of just a few of the expectations of Jesus point out how high and daunting is this expectation of discipleship. Moses’ words from his mountain are not any more difficult than Jesus’ words from his mountain. So, what do we do with that? What’s a Christian to do?

TNIV Is Dead . . . Sort of

On Tuesday Zondervan, Biblica and the Committee on Bible Translation issued a joint statement announcing a new revision of the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible to be released in 2011. They also announced that when the new edition is released, the TNIV will be taken off of the market.

Boyce College Dorm Meeting Worship

We just had an outstanding dorm meeting at Boyce College tonight. Dr. Russell Moore preached a message from James 1 (which I will appear on the Boyce College blog tomorrow). Buck Buchanan is leading our worship band, and they are doing a bang-up job—really incredible. I hope they’ll record some of their music this year so that I can share it with you here. RBL Reviews Dr. Joslin’s Book

Boyce College professor Dr. Barry Joslin published a book late last year titled Hebrews, Christ and the Law: The Theology of the Mosaic Law in Hebrews 7:1–10:18. The book just received a favorable review in The Review of Biblical Literature. The reviewer is David M. Allen of the Queen’s Foundation in Birmingham, England.
