I grew up just south of Kansas City, Missouri in Lee’s Summit. All of my family is from West Texas, where much of my family still lives. I attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri and recieved a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. What drew me to Louisville was Southern Seminary and their firm belief in the Bible as the inerrant Word of God. I was called into ministry as a young teenager, and look forward to ministering in a church as a senior Pastor. I have worked in churches as youth interns, interim pastors, and minister of music.

I currently serve at Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. My wife and I first became aquainted with the church when I assumed the role of interim music minister. We got more than we bargained for, and have chosen to invest our lives with the body of believers there. I married Katherine in the summer of ’06 and we just had our first son, Gunner Harlin Powell in March. The Lord is so kind to us!

I love my job because I believe in what’s happening here at Boyce College and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I count it a privelege to serve the Lord here.

There is no particular place I call home other than where my family currently lives, which is presently in Woodstock, Ga. Though I was not a military kid, the LORD moved my family around during several major periods within my life. These transitions helped me to grow more dependent upon God and claim my identity in Christ.

I am a senior at Boyce College and will graduate with a B.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies.

My time here at Boyce has been formative in encouraging me to think and live more according to Biblical standards. The education that I am receiving here is priceless for someone who is going into the ministry. The academics of the classroom coupled with practical application makes this institution one of the finest in the world to be a part of.

If the LORD permits me, after graduation, I am plan on attending seminary with hopes of serving overseas with the International Mission Board.

Born and raised in Dayton, OH, I have been blessed to grow up in a Christian home that is rooted in Scripture and daily radiates God’s love. My desire to serve the Lord through ministry was sparked at an early age and continued to grow throughout my elementary and high school education. As a 2006 graduate, I was given the opportunity to serve alongside missionaries in India fall of ’06. It was there that God solidified His call on my life in ministry. I moved to Louisville in the fall of 2007 to attend Boyce, where I am currently studying Church Ministry and plan to graduate May 2010.

Being both a student and an ambassador at Boyce College has not only given me a love for the students, faculty and staff of the Southern Seminary family, but also a passion for the direction and vision of the school in general. I am blessed to be in constant fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ who share the same desire to love God deeply, serve Him faithfully, and share His Good News with fervor.

Born and raised in Colorado, I felt the Lord directing me to full time ministry when I was in the ninth grade. Throughout high school I took several mission trips throughout the U.S and two to Juarez, Mexico. Into my response passion for teaching and mission work, I had planned to attend another Christian College in the pursuit of an Elementary Education degree. However, the Lord had a different plan in mind. After visiting with a student at Boyce College and hearing about his experience in the Mission track, I decided to apply and attend Boyce in the fall of 2006. It was hard to believe a school offered a degree suited specifically for those planning to serve as a missionary.

I am currently a junior in the Missions track and have greatly enjoyed each semester under the leadership of those at Boyce. Every professor that I have studied under has been an encouragement to me in my personal relationship with the Lord, as well as my ministry in the local church.

Originally from Jacksonville, Illinois, I grew up attending Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, a church I still deeply love. There, when I was 15, a young woman led me to Christ. As only the Lord can providentially work, I have the privilege to say that the young woman, Christian, who led me to Christ, eventually became my wife in December of 2006.

In May of 2008 I graduated from Southwest Baptist University with a degree in Religion. We moved to Louisville in July 2008 in order for me to attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. My wife is currently a second grade teacher. I am pursuing an MDiv in Christian Ministry with hopes of graduating in December 2010. Eventually, I hope to pastor and teach. Since moving to Louisville, we have joined Highview Baptist Church. Since entering Southern Seminary, I have been deeply impacted by Southern’s and Boyce’s passion and vision to instill a love for the local church in its students.

During my senior year of high school I began to develop what I believe to be a God-given desire to pursue a job based in or around the ministry of God’s people. In order to best do this I knew that a biblical education would be necessary for me to receive. However, for the first year of my college career I chose a different path, during which I went to a college in the University System of Georgia. After this inaugural year of my college career, God gave me a greater desire for vocational ministry as I served as a youth ministry intern at my home church. This is when I began my search for a college that could train and teach me to best minister to people of God.

After speaking with several different people, including my pastor, and doing a little research of my own, I ran across Boyce College. Due to Boyce’s affiliation with The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, which is one of the premier theological and academic seminaries in the world, I had no choice but to investigate opportunities to attend such a theologically robust institution. After seeking council from my parents, I arrived at Boyce in the Fall of 2007.

I am now a sophomore at Boyce and have experienced substantial growth in my spiritual walk and have full confidence that Boyce College is where God would have me during this season of my life. I hope that you, too, will consider attending Boyce College as you seek to learn about God and His will for your life.

I am currently a junior at Boyce College. I am a 2007 graduate of Corbin High School in Corbin, KY. I am studying Biblical Counseling. I first learned about Boyce my senior year of High School. After visiting a variety of colleges I was pleased to discover that Boyce was the place the Lord had prepared me to attend.

I love the community and fellowship with other believers Boyce has to offer. The students and staff at Boyce are truly in love with Jesus Christ. They are serious about the call to impact the world with the gospel. I know the things I am learning in and out of the classroom here at Boyce are equipping me to be a young woman who seeks hard after the Lord. I sincerely pray you will consider Boyce as you seek to discover the specific call the Lord has placed on your life.
